Sixty years is a long time to wait to bring the truth to light but we have finally done it. I picked beans in the Swan's Bean Yard at the age of 7 in 1962 and learned of the death of Alice at that time. We were warned to stay close to family members because a young girl had been abducted from that bean yard and killed. A scary and sobering thought for a young child.
Alice's cold case was brought to my attention again in early 2019. I was given the opportunity to look into the facts that were known and do some research which, by the grace of God, led to a resolution of the case. I'm grateful to report that Alice's murderer is now known. It's too late to bring him to trial but not too late to close her case. I hope it will bring some closure to living relatives. For those interested in the details, the book, The Handy Candy Man is available on Amazon.com in paperback and Kindle versions.
